Welcome to the Crime Stoppers Youth Challenge

The Crime Stoppers Youth Challenge Queensland is an educational competition based program for students in Years 6 to 12 throughout all Queensland schools and youth organisations; Scouts, Guides, Cadets, PCYC etc. Students who are home schooled in Queensland are also encouraged to participate in the program.

Aims of the Challenge

The aim of the Challenge is for participants to understand the role of Crime Stoppers, the context of crime and its impact within their community. In addition to this, participants are to offer creative and practical solutions in relation to the topic and demonstrate what they can do to help make their community safer.

2010 Topic

Our topic for 2010 is STOP VANDALISM. To learn more about the topic please visit our Students Information page (see link above).

What do participants need to do

Participants are encouraged to research the issues, the impact and consequences of vandalism from the perspective of the victim, the community and the offender. Working together in groups, or individually, participants interact with their local Crime Stoppers volunteers, police, council officers and community groups to build their understanding of the work of Crime Stoppers and the responsibility of citizens to help prevent vandalism.

Participants are encouraged to prepare a project in any format, for example, a PowerPoint presentation, video or newspaper article. Participants also must present recommendations on ways to reduce and prevent vandalism in their communities. All entries must clearly address the judging criteria – detailed on the Students Information page (see link above) and in the Teachers Guide (available to download on left). All recommendations made by participants will be compiled for presentation to Crime Stoppers Queensland and our Challenge Partners.

Judging + Prizes

Entries are judged according to set criteria, outlined in the brochure and Teachers Guide (available to download on left), in competition with participating schools and youth organisations within 11 set regions across four year level categories:

Upper Primary Years 6 + 7
Lower Secondary Years 8 + 9
Middle Secondary Year 10
Upper Secondary Years 11 + 12

The 11 regions are outlined in the Challenge brochure and Teachers Guide (available to download on left). The judge’s panel will select a finalist from each age level category in each region. Regional finalists will then compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze State Awards within their respective categories.

Regional Finalists

Prizes to the value of $100 for each student group will be awarded to the regional finalists. For example, four students in a group = $25 each.
